Marin Economic Commission

The Marin Economic Commission announces the awardees for the Sixth Annual Awards of Excellence Luncheon on Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Rafael. These prestigious awards recognize and honor those in businesses, community organizations, governments and individuals who contribute to a vibrant and sustainable Marin County economy, and are a tribute to our dedicated community leaders.

The 2004 "Awards of Excellence" recipients to be honored are:

Point Reyes Seashore Ranchers Association for "Agricultural Viability"
Recognizing their efforts to support a viable Marin agricultural economy by providing an interface with the National Park Service; modernizing farming and ranching practices, and organizing to preserve their agricultural landscape.

Tamalpais Bank for "Business Achievement"
Recognizing their exemplary growth in opening four new branch offices in Marin, which include community rooms, and a 47% increase in employees during the past two years; their response to underserved markets and small businesses, and their support of over 150 non-profit Marin organizations.

California Land Title of Marin for "Community Leadership & Service"
Recognizing their commitment to quality employees and superior service and their widespread involvement through their generous contributions of time, energy and financial support to numerous local nonprofits.

Ted Van Midde III for "Individual Achievement in Community Leadership & Service"
Recognizing Mr. Van Midde's unassuming generosity in contributing time, labor, materials and financial support for numerous projects in Marin, including the Novato High School and Wildcare facilities, and for serving as a role model in leadership in the construction industry.

The Book Exchange for "Environmental Values"
Recognizing Marilyn Nemzer for her resourcefulness in recycling hundreds of tons of educational materials; her collaboration with service organizations that provide volunteers and her dedication to global education and literacy.

Novato Housing Coalition for "Smart Growth/Workforce Housing"
Recognizing their steadfast dedication to the development of affordable housing; their tireless attendance at meetings to monitor the progress of projects, and their education and outreach efforts to promote and create affordable housing in the Marin community.

County of Marin for "Workforce Preparedness"
Recognizing their work with the Marin County Schools to Career partnership in providing students the opportunity to develop skills, and explore careers through the internship and training that embraces cultural, language and ethnic diversity.

Master of Ceremonies will be Doug McConnell who has been the host and senior editor of "Bay Area Backroads" on KRON-TV since 1993. He has created, produced and hosted many series, special programs, and news projects for local, national and international distribution. He has received many broadcast awards including a handful of Emmys, an Iris, and a Gabriel.

The public is invited to attend this notable community event. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table of ten.
